Balancing UX Consultancy with Kuushy’s Vision of an MVP

The Client

Kuushy is a product from TACNIQ(a Singaporean startup specializing in advanced tactile sensor technology) that aims to address poor back posture through a smart seat cushion.

What They Want

They asked me and my colleagues to design a mobile app for their smart cushion. Along the way, I also animated the app’s back exercise videos.

Project Objectives

Illustrate the characters for the app.

Provide intuitive UI for seat cushion’s ongoing data findings.

Animate easy-to-follow back exercises.

The Curve Ball

We were already given a gist of what they expected through illustrations the client provided to us. The Kuushy Team also did not have their own branding already established.

Then the project experienced a pause in between but once the project was back on, the stakeholders changed, along with the direction.

The Solution

I adjusted to the new direction of the project and simplified the prototype of the MVP app even further to cater to the new team’s preferences.

The Problem

The client shifted from their original brief due to change of teams.

Old Version

Avatar sleeps and only wakes up if the user displays poor posture.

The original version also has emotions, for each sitting position.

New Version

There is a hatching system. The user has to be in good posture most of the time.

After 3 days, the egg hatches and Kuushy’s mascot appears.

The only thing that will change are the speech bubbles.

Phase 1

After 3 days of trying to sit upright...

Phase 2

Final Phase

Old Version

The first version has 4 avatars with their own screens.

New Version

The new one just has one simplified mascot with a lot of copy.

The Solution

I updated the entire prototype using the finalized branding they provided and proposed new screens(the Hatching System) to cater to the added feature. The stakeholders loved the additional flows suggested and became part of the finalized prototype.

The Problem

The client did not have their branding ready at the start of the project.

The Curve Ball

The team wanted to add exercises into the app when it wasn’t included in the brief.

We informed the Kuushy Team that adding an additional function that wasn’t part of the brief will delay the project timeline even more and would also increase the total price of the project.

Exercise Routines

The client provided the list of exercise videos for me to use as reference, and then I animated the routine using Illustrator and After Effects.

As per request, the client mentioned to not include any sound effects or music as they will be the ones to add them in.
